FD Turns Over Intermittently
I am the original owner of a 93 RX-7. Have done substantial modifications over the last 17 years including an engine re-build, single turbo upgrade, fuel system and power fc among others. The re-build was done 2 years ago in late 2008. The Power FC was installed about 5 years ago. Before that I had the purple box from Peter Farrell and before that I had the gold box from Peter Farrell.
Over the past year I have been experiencing an intermittent starting issue. When I turn the key on, but before I crank the engine, everything lights up as usual and I can hear the two fuel pumps start up for a second to prime the fuel system.
When I turn the key to start, the engine does nothing. No click... nothing.
After I try and start it 5 to 20 times, it will all of a sudden turn over and start right up. It does this when it's cold and after it is hot. It is quite intermittent and I have not found any common attributes as to what causes this to happen.
I have already done the following to try and resolve it:
1. Replaced the starter
2. By-passed the clutch switch so I can start the car without the clutch depressed.
3. Replaced the ignition switch
I have read quite a few posts and spoke to several RX-7 Techs, including the one who re-built my motor and have found that this seems to be a somewhat common issue among the FD but nobody that I spoke with knows the cause.
Has anyone else had this problem and determine the root cause???
