FD stock looks good enuff!!!
Ive had my FD for nearly 2 years now, I,ve searched and searched for ages for a kit and new wheels, but I have to say that after skopeing the net and goin to countless car shows, I have never seen anything that inspired me or made me think " ****! how much? I want it!"
I still have a stock set up ( as far as bod and wheels go,) and apart from lowering I would have to say that Mazda got it right first time, everytime I've tried bigger or flashy wheels my FD seems to lose its fatness, and I;ve tried a number of kits out but the balance never seems right,
I find you have to be super careful when buying exterior stuff, youre FD can quite easily end up looking like a different car.
Would you agree that Mazda really got it right first time with the FD stock exterior setup???

You haven't seen my car yet! Once I get my feed bumper on I'll post some pics. By the way, Volk rims look awesome and are lightweight, but good luck paying for them. That hurt!

Yes, I agree. The stock FD is a wonderful, BEAUTIFUL car. One DOES have to be careful with exterior mods or else it can actually detract from the car's looks.
Not to say that there aren't some great looking modded cars, I am just agreeing that the stock look is still gorgeous.

Im gonna do the 99 spec front and tail lights, the feed carbon fiber sideskirts becuase they are extremely clean and not too showy and either the 99 spec wing or the feed wing dont know which one yet.

I think the stock body is better looking than any kit out there. While Mazda made some steps forward with the 99 body, I think they also lost a few steps.
All of the body kits try to make the car "stand out", instead of enhancing the natural lines of the car. Either that or they look OK but then have fussy/busy detailing that ruins the look.

I love the look of the stock FD body. I've got to disagree on the wheels though. I put my stock wheels w/R compound tires on the car and it looks sorta whimpy. Putting on my 17x10 Fikses (rear) wheels make it look absolutely tougher, especially from the back.

I disagree. I like the 93 lip better than the 99. I know the 99 is better for air flow and aerodynamics, but I dont like the way it sticks out more. Just my opinion though...

We're definitely in the minority but I feel the base model FD's are the most attractive; the R1 wing muddies up a beauiful shape IMO. I have yet to see a body kit that adds beauty to this car. I would rather have a more attractive design than flaunt my exterior modifications.
I can think of lots of beautiful automobiles but I don't feel anything in modern times matches the beauty of the FD from the a-pillars forward; there are some beautiful things happening both in the flanks and the front end. One nitpick I notice now is that the FD seems to have more rear overhang than modern cars do, but it does a good job of hiding it.

It has different turbos that put out a bit more hp, a different wing, and a different plastic lip under the front bumper. And the headlights I believe are the same but the combination lights are different, but that is probably what you meant. As for finding pics, do a search.

I have a 93, with few mods and feel that the car is all one could want. Beautiful lines, just a great looking car that is unique in the automotive world. It will be a classic design for years to come.

I prefer the 93 look over the 99 look.
The 99 front just doesn't go with the car. It looks tacked on and passive.
I don't think much can beat the RE-A car, however:

The best reason for getting a 98- front end is the added cooling - a big step forward
As for stock rims - if you're talking about the 16s* then again, while they might look good, they're not the best tool for the job - too small - this is something that has been highlighted in several reviews in japan.
* - of course, mazda has released a pile of different/optional rims over the years. I got lucky with mine - factory-issue BBS 17x8/8.5 -something I would have selected from the aftermarket anyway
However, some of the optional rims, especially in the early days, are hideous in the extreme - red tri-spokes spring to mind...
