FD RX7 Single or Dual Mass Flywheel

I want to confirm something because I googled it and it gave me two conflicting "AI Summaries" lol (I know probably shouldn't trust it).

My FD (1993, rebuilt 13B, rebuilt turbos, Apexi) makes 330WHP and 257WTQ (dyno'd by PO). Now the clutch is slipping really bad, first it was only at 5K plus in 4th, then it started slipping in 3rd, now it even slips in second soooo clutch time (did my research around this forum and others, I am likely going with ACT). Which brings me to the question of Flywheels. I saw in a post in the search that some resurface - some dont (maybe just scuff with sandpaper). I have a local guy who can resurface ONLY if its single mass.

I want to say 100% it is single mass FD's never came with a dual mass flywheel correct? And therefore can be resurfaced.

I considered a new lighter flywheel, but (not by choice) I get stuck in traffic alot so driveability is important.

Its single mass. I resurfaced mine with a orbital sander and some paper before mounting my ACT clutch.

Excellent! If you don't mind me asking, which ACT did you put in your car, what kind of power are you running and how are you liking the clutch?

One of the most popular clutch kit used on this forum is the following -

https://www.advancedclutch.com/produ...t-with-monoloc

Holds 400 ft/lbs. It comes with the monoloc as well. Oem like pedal feel and modulation. Consequently at the time of this posting, they are offering a 30% discount and free shipping for their “Christmas in July” sale.

You should have the flywheel resurfaced by a machine shop. It’s not expensive and extends the life of the disk.

The biggest issue and reason why i did not resurface mine was the flywheel nut. Both removing it and then tighten to spec was more than I wanted to handle on jackstands x)

Used the one linked above, works good on stock power but i feel the springs could be a bit stiffer as i sometime experieve some oscilation n the driveline when driving hars.

Racing Beat used to offer a 17-lb. steel flywheel (vs. 9 and 11-lb. aluminum) that was more streetable, but I don't see it listed on their website anymore. Some dealers may have old stock.

I'm liking Sakebomb's new flywheel. Their clutch sounds interesting as well. I will probably swap over to their clutch kit later this year when I rebuild my engine. I rather like Sakebomb's well researched and thought out products. They also have the tried and true options from ACT.

Banzai has the ACT and others as well. https://www.banzai-racing.com/store/..._flywheel.html

Yes the timing of the ACT sale was perfect. I ended up ordering the ZX6-XTSS vs the HDSS (more clamping force on the pressure plate) - which will probably result in a heavier pedal feel but that will be more in line with my other cars so it worked out well.

Will take the flywheel to a local guy to get it resurfaced. Once I get my tracking # I will start teardown!

fwiw, I do have a lightwheel flywheel and used to DD the car here in Bay Area and San Diego. Never felt it was annoying in traffic.
