Its definately the driver and bad tires. I used to think my FD was a bad rain car until I accidently started drifting down an exit ramp. When I noticed the car wasn't gripping the turn as expected I started checking the grass area off the ramp for a soft spot to land the car and right as I chose a spot and began to adjust the car to go there I was right at the advisory speed limit sign (I was actually only going 5mph over the speed limit, i think my problems were more tire related than driver). I started trying to adjust to not hit the sign and the car turns almost completely sideways and I loose sight of my soft spot. Only choice at this point was to try to ride as much of the turn as possible and hope to find another spot. Surprisingly, the car hung the whole turn and I was able to straighten her out at the end so not to run into the middle of traffic or or hop the curb at the end and kill my wheels, control arms and axles. To end the whole experience off, I get pulled over at the traffic light right after the exit ramp and get a ticket for reckless driving (which I dont plan on paying). I've got two weeks left to decide to either pay the ticket or take it to court.

Think again!!!

You drove your car too fast, in the rain, around a corner, and nearly crashed it ......... certainly not YOUR fault

The police officer is correct. You are guilty of reckless driving. I hope you learn from this.

If you don't pay the ticket, then you can paint "I drive like ***" on your rear bumper. That will help other drivers.

Light weight + short WB + wide tires is not the best decision in the rain.

Well it looks like this discussion may never end:

"it's a great car in the rain"

"it's a lousy car in the rain"

"great!"

"lousy!!"

The only thing I can offer is the fact that I have tracked my FD in the rain at several HPDE's at VIR (most notably last spring when it snowed) and it handles fine. I had good rain tires on (Bridgestone S-02 PP's) and I learned to take things slowly and above all to stay off the boost as much as possible.

Yes, that's right, you have to engage the brain and actually think about the driving conditions and adjust accordingly.

My only complaint is that the car is so low it tends to get down in the road mist kicked up by other cars and so visability is pretty bad.
