For the FD owners, what wheel sizes do you prefer to run?

1) Staggered wheel setup: Yes or No.
2) Size: 17 or 18 (19s are not a option).
3) Width: 7, 8, 8.5, etc.
4) Why you chose this particular setup, whether you autocross, drag race, etc. OR it looks nice on your show car....I wanna know.

If you run a set of wheels for racing and another for daily driving, please state both wheels.

Thanks guys.

Crashunit, Twinturboteddy, Maxcooper, Potatobbq, etc.... Please state your wheel sizes as I'm kinda expecting some answers from you guys.

The most common set-ups I've seen from people who care about performance and not just looks:

1) 17x9 all around with 245/40 or 255/40 tires

2) 17x8.5 front with 235/45 or 245/40, 17x9.5 rear with 265/40

3) 18x9 front with 255/35, 18x10 rear with 285/30

4) 18x10 all around with 285/30 - track only

I'm still running stockers but will probably go with 17x9s all around when I get to that stage.

that depends, running narrower wheels+tires up front will shift the car's handling balance to understeer. I guess it depends on how you view the car's stock handling - neutral or tail-happy.

I run 17x8 Front with 235/45 17's
and 17x9 rear with 255/40 17's
for street use. Its also the size of the newer JSpec FD's.
If its good enough for them, its good enough for me.
I run 275/40 DR, when I go to the track.
If you go over 17's you will start to lose performance.
From the weight to the lower sidewall, its not as good of a setup as 17's.
They do look better to some people though.

I understand that a staggered setup is more stable for street use. At least that's what rishie said. I'm going staggered, cause there are some roads around here that can be REALLY scary if you kick the turbos and induce too much oversteer. I like 18x8 front and 18x9 rear, +40 all the way.

I like the staggered look with 18x9 up front and 18x10s out back! Just because it looks good!

1) I think Staggered wheel set up looks the best on FDs imo.

2) If you are mainly going for a race set up, 17s are the best to go for. ( 235/17/40-45 for the front and 265/17/40-35 for the rear) And finding the lightest rims as possible will give you great acceleration and enough grip. For show purposes I think 18's are the biggest you should go, 19's are just a bit too much, and won't give you enough rubber and hurt performance a bit imo.

3) for the width amount for 17's I gave above, 17x 8 and 17 x 9 is the most common offset to go for. If you are going for show the bigger the better I suppose.

4) Im my case I felt when I was running 17's my car was responding a bit quicker and better then compared to having 18's, since they are heavier and have more rotational mass to deal with. But that can be fixed with a single turbo . As of now I am running 18/245/35 and 18/295/30, mainly cause I have really really wide fenders now to fill

17x9 255/40's on all 4 corners. No understeer. Can still rotate tires to maximize tire life. Great for the track. For the street 17x9 or wider...enough to fit a 275 tire in the rear. Looks better that way
18's? If all you are after is looks...they are typically heavier and the lower profile tires needed for the 18" rim don't perfom as well as a comperable tire on a 17" rim

My input FWIW,
Crispy

Currently, I'm using the stockers, but when I do change I'll be going to 17's. Probably not staggered.

Most of the 18's that I've seen on FD's look like monster truck wheels, I just don't like the look. 17's seems to fit the car better for the look I desire.

I have 18x8 up front and 18x9 in the rear. 18s look good but honestly I think 17s would be a better choice as far as performance goes. The car does feel a little more sluggish w/ 18s than the stock 16s but it does grip a lot better also so maybe 17s would be a good compromise. I guess it really depends what you do with your car.... I don't like staggering the front and rear too much because of understeer. I'd go 17x8.5 and 17x9.5... plus 17" tires are cheaper too

I'd have second that one... 18s on cars w/ stock suspension make the car look like monster trucks. 18s will look good if the car is lowered with the tires about flush w/ the wheel well.

I've got 235/40-18 on 8.5s up front & 275/35-18 on 9.5s down the back. Bought the car with this setup and currently regretting it. Acceleration definitely suffers on the 18s when compared to another FD on 17s. IMO, the 18s don't carry their own weight too well and the super low side-walls are a hindrance to normal driving.

Just stick with the 17s on a staggered 235f-265r and you'll be going the right path.
