Yes every Rex with a stock clutch that I have ever driven felt soft. Mine is going out right now.It started slipping 2 days ago.My car just crossed 60k on original motor.
If by smooth you mean that it has a gentle engagement,
that it's not a bear trap clutch with an abrupt engagement, yeah, that's normal. It doesn't mean it's going to start slipping or anything. You can test for slippage by driving up a hill in a high gear at relatively low rpm's. If the revs start to rise but the car doesn't go any faster, your clutch is slipping.
