FD newbie here, Have a few ?'s for the experts

Hey all, I just picked up a 1993 touring model with bad seals this past week and since then i've been learning as much as I can on these cool machines. My past experience is in muscle cars and 4 cylinder imports. I have a 1968 camaro with a small block (im not sure if that sac-relig here or what lol) but i have always had my eye on the FDs. I also have a 91 miata which i have taken apart and put back together more than once so I have a decent amount of knowledge on mazdas in general. i suppose my first question would be where can I pick up a nice and detailed repair manuel for this thing. I searched around my local stores for a chiltons or haynes but to no avail. I have a few really good books about the mx-5 that helpedc me greatly, now im just looking for a similar source on the rx. Secondly, as i mentioned earlier the car has bad seals due to sitting for a few years from what i am told. The car cranks and I do not hear any horrible metallic grinding noises, but it just does not fire. The previous owner said he had it compression tested and this verified that the seals were bad. So i guess my question here is, should I attempt the rebuild of the 13b, and if so should i upgrade to 3mm seals. Or should i start looking around for a 20b on ebay or such and not bother for the 13. I plan on driving the car frequently as my only other on the road at the moment is a 98 blazer which is killing me on on gas. well i suppose that is it for now, i look foward to seeing what everyone has to say. thanks in advance everyone!

First of all Im sorry i have to tell you this but search search search that is what everyone will tell you. Ill get you started though. Most people just use this http://www.wrex-racing.com/docs/fd/9...highlights.pdf as there manual barely anyone has an actual paper manaul. Rebuilding the engine can be done with proper knowledge and proper tools in someones garage, but it will take plenty of time for a beginner, and if you get stuck and have questions about something search first then ask the other members. On the type of engine build Iyou want to go with depends on what your goals are.. IMO do not try a 20b as your first rotary project not a good idea. By the way I wouldnt be looking forward to getting much better gas mileage than your blazer I get 15MPG if I dont boost. Welcome to the Club

If your comfortable rebuilding a piston engine, then I don't see why you shouldn't try to rebuild the REW yourself. I would recommend picking up the Bruce Turrentine videos here: http://www.rotaryaviation.com/overhaul_video.htm and here: http://www.rotaryaviation.com/R%20R%20Video.htm. Both videos have helped me immensely during my R&R.

BTW, if you expect this car to improve on gas mileage over a Blazer, you'll probably be disappointed.
