Pre- mix is a waste of time. Most FD motors fail due to coolant o-ring seals going bad OR broken apex seals due to detonation.

The stock OMP system works fine, leave it alone...

I agree

I agree with the above statement. I used to use premix before and have stopped using it. I saw no difference and I just get a feeling that I am slowly fowling my plugs when i premix.

I agree 100% The stock OMP works great...when it works. The ONLY reason I went premix is because I had a failure on one of my OMP lines(I must have broken one putting in engine #3) and it had a "small" leak. I figure now that I premix, I won't have any problems with NOT having my apex seals lubricated.

Of course pettit is going to support premix, they sell protek R....btw omps do their job, there is aboslutely no problem with not running premix, there is also no harm in running premix other then smoke on start up and peace of mind( if you believe in premix) I think that most people run premix partially due to the rotaries bad rep in reliability.

with premix you can also run syn oils. Then again there is a debat about those.........

I've been running premix on my FC since rebuild (and syn for a while). I go to walmart and buy a gallon and just measure it out- too expensive other wise.

My fd omp line broke and looks like a mess by the omp motor. I will be running premix on that too. Dont' trust it with over 130,000 miles.

AMS-OIL 2-stroke synthetic for me. I have read on the interenet (it must be true!) that MMO can be corrosive. I didn't think much of it and continued use of MMO.

then one day one of my stock exhaust tips just fell off. on inspection it had been corroded badly, and it had red soot all over it. I only mixed the reccomended 4. oz of MMO at fills.

It could have been something normal to happen over time, but if this was caused by MMO, I can't bear to think what it has done to the internals of my engine!
Now I use a proper 2-stroke oil, with no oddly colored soots on my tips!

So, if you can find a good 2-stroke oil; i.e. mobil 1 or ams-oil, spend the extra $$ on it. It made a noticeable difference in the smoothness of my engine when I switched from MMO to ams-oil.

the oil injectors only cote about 1/3rd of the rotor (the middle third)
when you premix, that oil gets shot through the injector, coating the whole face of the rotor.
I premix for the reason stated above hoping it may reduce friction and consequently lower temps.

Are there issues in plugging up the cat prematurely when adding oil to the gas?

Would using MMO clogged the fuel injectors (leaving deposits etc) or not?

I would keep the mix ratio at about 200-300:1, I don't think that should cause the cat to clog. Also use a synthetic 2 cycle oil or MMO. I've used MMO in all of the RX-7's I've owned since 1979 and have not had any issues with it. In the FD I use 6-8 oz per fill up.

I agree with what Fritz said, extra lubrication = less friction = less heat.

I only run pre-mix at the track events. I feel a little safer with the premix.

Not much bad feedback about MMO--I've had a bottle unused for some time. Think I'll try 4ounces when I fill up this weekend. That is after a change the fuel filter for the first time.
Anyone notice in change in your fuel filter (when you changed it) after premixing?

two confusing standards i see being followd in this thread

first of all, oil in your gas period will increase the risk of detonation...

second of all, if you run any type of ecu that does not support the OMP, you can simply leave it unplugged, when you do not hook up the electrical end of the OMP, it stays at 50% duty level at all rpm/boost ranges...so premix a bit and leave the OMP on...you're golden

honestly I dont think it hurts the rating that bad. You figure there is over 2300 oz in a full tank and with no omp at all I run 16oz of premix.

Thats only .0069% premix

I was running 18+pri of boost for over a year while mixing in 16oz of premix and it didnt cause any problems
