I just use 4 seconds of MMO (like how I measure). It's very cheap compaired to two stroke oil. I don't think it smokes as much or at all rather. I'm not as worried about lowering the octane level with it as I am with two stroke. Although I have no idea how much two stroke actually lowers it and if it is even a significant amount to worry about.
Do 2nd Gen's have a oil metering pump? That's a high percentage. I would guess only 1/3 3rd Gen guys pre-mix.

Oh yeah!! Of course, I don't really have a choice considering the single turbo and the bridgeport. All the factory equipment is removed. Premix is the only way to lube up my housings. I still only get 5 inches of vacuum idling at 1800rpm.

I put 4oz of MMO in the gas tank at every fill up. I didn't know i could use it with the oil change too. Great stuff, cheap too, you can get it at walmart too.

Why would you pre-mix? I didn't see anything about that in the Operator's Manual.
What's the reasoning behind it? Is this only for a modified 7 or is it good to do for stock, also?

Blow up or win
4 oz. of synthetic 2 stroke every full tank for me. Been doin' it for the last 5 years out of 10 years of ownership.
No drawbacks that I am aware of and it is supposed to make your engine last up to 30% longer. I would think that it would help it run cooler as well, although I do worry about changing the a/f ratio a little. So far, so good!
I personally think the price of Protek R is outrageous. I use any synthetic 2 stroke I can get my hands on by the gallon and keep a small measured plastic bottle in my bin.

I use mobil 1 Synthetic premix oil.
Mobil oils have always been one of the best burning oils out there leaving almost no deposits. I trust their stuff.

Please explain the method of pre-mix. Do you mix a quart of oil to a gallon of fuel and then introduce 4 oz of the mix for every fill-up? Or do you pour 4oz of oil straight in the tank at every fill-up? Couldn't you just use 4 oz of diesel fuel for every tank of gas? I'm just throwing things up, I have no idea what is correct.

Does anyone else get a lot of smoke on startup when you let your tank run really low? I never run it low on purpose, but did a few times and there was quite a cloud... Other than that it never smokes more than just a hair...
Anyway, after I first started to premix I noticed a difference in idle and response... and I just kept doing it.

Been doing it for 6 months since my rebuild. Using Protek from Pettit still since I ordered a huge batch. May try MMO when I run out.
