FD Featured in Dec 2005 Road & Track!
There's a great write up in the December issue of Road and Track (with the new Z06 and Viper coupes on the cover) in a section called "Used Car Classics".
To quote: But what a car it was--and still is. (It's) an addicting blend of power, roadholding and exquisite sheet-metal curves...a driver's car if ever there was one," we said in a 1993 review......
"Althought it's seqential twin-turbo system is trouble prone, the RX-7's twin rotor 1308-cc Wankel engine is a thing of beauty when it functions correctly. It churns out 255 bhp and a sound that's been likened to band saws and outboard motors. Interior is tight-fitting and serious, with a center console canted toward the driver. Ride is appropriately sports-car stiff, but the reward is one of the best pure driver's cars ever made."
"The last of the RX-7s is a rare flower indeed: a no-compromise enthusiast's car built in small numbers and with little thought given to the mundane practicalities that automakers usually obsess over. And, thanks to the magic of depreciation, third-gen RX7's are no longer particularly pricey. All of which make this fascinating car a natural Used Car Classic.
"So which (year) is the best to chose? That's easy --any third-gen RX-7 that is clean, sound and reasonably original, no matter its trim or year of manufactuer. Considering that a decade has passed since the last new car sat on a showroom floor, and that fewer than 14,000 were sold here, the pickings are likely to be slim."
There is also a very well written "Buyer's Checklist" section - they say they consulted with Cam Worth of Pettit Racing, and Nick Van Nugteren of Rotary Reliablity and Racing in Santa Ana - and it shows. Pretty solid info!
Pictures of a beautiful, pristine CYM accompany the article and make it a MUST HAVE for any third gen lover!
Great article, on our GREAT CAR!
