You can McGyver the hole on the SMIC with sheet metal, screws and maybe silicone to seal the gaps. Since the single will run cooler then the twins, you should be able to get by with the stock SMIC but it would explain the blown engine at 40k mi (unless that's when he went single). You can restrict the boost to 10lbs untill you bore out the 850's and replace the fuel pump. Have compression and o-ring sniff test before purchase is final. You can get more answers in the single section.

Thanks everybody. Just spoke to owner, he's super nice guy, very up-front. Said he's never even gone 100mph in it.

Stock twins failed at 40k, caused problems with engine. He had engine/turbo replaced with factory stuff. 3000 miles later, one of the twins failed again. Fed up, he had them put in the TD06 kit. Stock fuel pump, stock injectors, dynoed 325hp at 12psi and that's what he has the ProfecB/Power FC dialed to. Car has no cats, straight-through exhaust, hks dp, hks super dragger.

If I replaced IC would I have to replace injectors and fuel pump at the same time? I want to make it safer but I don't have $2000 burning a hole in my pocket. 325hp is plenty, but I want to be safe. Guys at his shop had tuned it to run safely on what he has. Would you disagree and say 12 is too high? I can always push it down to 10 with the Profec.

12lbs is fine, you will max the fuel system (100% duty cycle) at 15lbs or more acurately at 1bar. Without patching that hole in the SMIC duct, you are risking bad heat soak! On the other hand 12lbs may be too much for the stock SMIC and maybe you should go down to 10lbs untill replaced.

1. Patch SMIC hole and run 10lbs
2. Upgrade intercooler and run 12lbs
3. Upgrade injectors and fuel pump then run 14lbs

Damn I didn't even notice that SMIC hole until right now!

I wonder why that is left open like that? Surely they knew....

Thanks GoRacer for your advice. If I buy, the first thing I'll do is rig a cover for that hole and dial the boost down for the trip home.

Your vac line openings are not plugged on the LIM.

Doesn't matter. Those nipples just go from one side of the LIM to the other (they do not actually connect to a vacuum source in the LIM). Since the rats nest is removed (due to the single), these are not required to be used.

DefBringer - that hole is in there from the factory. It connects the ductwork to the stock intake. Sometimes, when people switch intakes, they forget to block off this hole. I blocked mine off with a piece of aluminum and some silicone. As soon as I did that, I noticed much cooler intake temps. Works like a charm. Easy, and very cheap to do (~$5).

Dude,
I think in almost any transaction for someting used, you can start with an offer 15% less than whats beng asked for.

This car is clean, lo miles... Does he have records? You can work with whats there, can't you? The suspension and ride are probably perfect with this few miles on it... Find a buddy who has a buddy who has one and all 3 of you go over it. Ask owner to let you start it cold. Go for a ride, check the condition of the oil, tires, etc... Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..... If you get a thumbs up, offer 15500 & see what he says.
Good luck
J

First problem I see right off the bat is the stock IC with that turbo...
I guess everyone beat me to it.
Very scary to run the car in that condition. Your looking for trouble with that setup.

I would just go for a really nice stock car, and do the work yourself so you can blame yourself if the engine blows up. =)
