FD Emission Help
Hey Guys,
Recently moved to south central TN where I will have to pass emissions on my fd. Air pump removed, full bolt on car with stock ported twins.
Two questions:
1) I have a power fc to tune and the Oem cat..any chance at all I can pass? Tailpipe test would be administered.
2) There are all kinds of crazy single setups in areas that I know have crazy emission standards around the country(especially CA). Anyone aware of any "special" mechanics in the Chattanooga(South Central TN) area that provides relative paperwork to get the nod?
Feel like I'd have to sell the car if I can't pass emissions...

I really think u will need an air pump.
In in nashville area and i transfer tags around.
I take tags from a car that will pass emissions and transfer them to the fd then re register the car the will pass emissions.
What yr is ur fd? Base, touring or R1?
Any idea what u would sell ir for?

Depends on the exhaust test type and limits. If it's a sniffer test and no visual inspection then you might be able to get by with an aftermarket cat and a lean tune for idle and 2500 RPM. If there is a visual inspection then you will need the airpump back on, plus some kind of a cat and a functioning check engine lamp. If it's an ASM test with visual inspection you will need the airpump with functioning ACV hookup, stock cat, and probably stock ECU.
No reason to sell your car, you can get your car to pass with a little effort and some parts scrounging depending on what you are missing.
EDIT: I looked up the test requirements, it is tampering and sniffer test:
1975-1995 Gasoline Vehicles
Required Tests: Tailpipe, Visual Tampering inspection on the Gas cap and Catalytic Converter
Procedures
The inspector will verify that the vehicle has a Catalytic Converter (if required) on the exhaust pipe (between the engine block and the muffler). If the vehicle’s catalytic converter has been removed or tampered with, the vehicle will fail the inspection
The inspector will verify that the vehicle has a properly sealing gas cap on all gas tanks. If there are cracks in the seal of the gas cap, it will fail the inspection.
The inspector will insert a probe into the vehicle’s tailpipe to measure the emissions. The tailpipe is required to come out of the back or side of the vehicle in order to be tested. If the tailpipe does not come out the back or side of the vehicle, the vehicle cannot be tested.
