hello
i just bought a b&m short shifter and sure it does look very easy to install.
here is the problem......my stock shifter dont wanna come off.
i think its because sealer? mayb not.
i dont wanna force anything untill i really know wassup.
and when stock shifter come off, isnt there going to b a oil/fluid spill everywhere??
please give me a tip to remove that thing w/ out damage anything.
any other tips would help too

its not going to slide right off, its been on there for 10+ years. Give it a little leverage. And, no, there isnt going to be a big spill, just do it when the tranny is cold and carefully so it doesnt drip on anything.

 

cool i actually hammered (rubber 1) little bit and it came off and yup no oil spills(my tranny was cold),

lol ok its been few days,,, and i see a leak now..
well im thinking it might be a oil i spilled while i was installing, but im not sure it actually leaking from the shifter area.(hope not)
when i opened my shifter boots again i checked if bolt were not tyte enuff, but i couldnt even move it(which means its tyte enuff)
i did put little bit of sealer.
i didnt run my car after i installed my shifter (its in the shop for paint job) because its not street driveable.(doors and trunk is not on the car)
so if it was the oil i spilled, i should drive my FD 100mph lol to clean up the oils?
if u think its the leak from the shifter, should i remove the shifter and clean the edge and put sealers again?
should i wait till i start drive my FD?
i hate to see any leaks on my FD lol i always trippin out about and leak from my FD.
so please help

just make sure that it is sealed good....

 

What kind of sealer did you use? I just installed a gotham racing short shifter, but I didn't seal it with anything. I have no leaks but still think it should be sealed.

 

I didn't seal mine with anything and have no leaks...Just make sure you don't torq down on one screw fully before you start on the next one...torq them equally...Like

Hand tight

top left - bottom right - top right - bottom left..

Then go around in the same order a couple of times and torq down on them equally until they are good and tight. this just makes sure that it seats properly.

 

if you used sealer, make sure it is in a perfect ring around the base of the shifter. If it hardened and you didnt have it tightened down enough, then there will be gaps...just my thoughts
