FD air pump for air nozzle atomisation?

Evening all,

was wondering if anyone could answer a few queries I have regarding the air pump on the FD, mine is currently redundant as im running a straight mid-pipe, and im considering using it as the air supply for a couple of atomising water injection jets.

Im need to know if the activation point can be altered, I believe the air pump currently works below 3500rpm, the reverse of that would be pretty much perfect.

I also need to know if the air pressure it provides is constant, and also what the pressure/flow rates are.

My search resources at the mo are limited as im at work, for some reason a couple of car websites work but nothing else, someone in IT must be a motor nut

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Andy

It's just a simple 12v circuit that runs the air pump. Take the ECU control out of the loop, and voila. The 2nd gen RX-7's used an air pump that didn't have a clutch on it - it was a totally mechanical system, and they ran with the engine all the time.

From what I remember, the air pump produces about a pound or two of pressure - it's a low-pressure, high-volume pump.

Most of the information you'll need can either be gleaned from the shop manual or will require you to do your own testing.

Thanks Dale, sounds promising.

When im at home i'll see if I can find a shop manual online somewhere, just thought id post in case anyone knew off top of their head.

The motors not in a running state at the moment so cant do my own testing easily, spending most of my time trawling the web for infor at the mo

As it would only be pressurising a small injector, rather than flow into a cat, I suppose the pressure would up a bit? Not sure what would be more important flow or pressure, although I guess one would affect the other, limiting flow would increase pressure...

Right ive found out the flow rate, its 140-220 litres/min, I take it flow rate is rev dependant so when its running all the time top flow rate should increase as it currently stops at 3xxx rpm

Is there any way to work out what pressure it could make through restrictor rings or something simliar
