I have read that you can force the fans to come on by turning on the driving lights? I decided to test this but couldnt do it? Am I missing something? The car was on and I tried when the motor was cold and when hot. I know my fans work since I hear them come on when the temps get high enough on their own.

They just come on at a somewhat lower temperature. They won't come on if the coolant is below ~200F, IIRC.
