failed smog -_-;

RPM 1856/2002 at 15/25mph
%C02 14.4/14.5
%02 was measured at 15/25mph at 0.0/0.1

HC (PPM) at 15 mph was 375 max 88 (oh my..)
HC (PPM) at 25 was 46 max 53 (close)

CO (%) was at 15mph/25mph .22/.07 max being .52/.50

NO (PPM) was 13/13 max being 704/738

Failled smog with bone stock 93 r1 with 102xxx miles one first engine, any suggestions?
Had the tech guy look over the car for $140, said ERG (sp)? was fine, o2 sensors okay, visual test passed with flying colors, but he complained how there was no space and had to wait half an hour after each test for the car to cool down before he ran another test and told me to leave the car there over night. I get a call at 7:20am from the smog people, that the tech couldn't find wat was wrong with the car and to come pick up the car, I get there at 8:20 only to find out the smog tech has his day off today.... so i guess i gotta call them tommorow. Oh and I didn't have to pay the $140 because they told me they couldn't find the problem so i should take it to the dealer -_-;;.
Oh one last thing... is it true the seller of the car has to smog the car?

i believe the seller of the car is responsible for smog. when i bought mine tho, i was too impatient for the seller to get around to doing the smog before he gave me the car. so i ended up offering to take the responsibility of smogging the car myself in order to get the car earlier.

You should run it with the cat warm (the hotter the better) to get the numbers down. I'm not sure why they wanted it to cool down between tests -- that doesn't make any sense to me. Get the car nice and warm and then leave it idling in the parking lot until they are ready to test.

High HC's suggest it could be misfiring or running rich. Was it thoroughly warmed up before the test? (Freeway driven for a few miles immeadiately before?) Air pump & controls as well as the CAT(s) could figure into this as well.

Yes, in CA a seller is responsible for the smog if it being sold as a registered vehicle.

Yeah i was blinded on how i was 2 inches away from owning a stock FD, see it never had any problems passing smog before, and there were no mods done to the car. The guy even brought it in evey 15k miles for service. So i thought "should pass smog with no problems, since it still has all the stock stuff on it" but it didn't and if i end up paying an arm and a leg to fix the car, i want the seller to fade in too.

Ohh i meant that the tech wanted to wait for my car to cool down to diagonse (sp) the problem, after i failled. But i did drive on the freeway b4 i went to smog it only to have the guy tell me he has to move the car and my test came much later. Also my car makes these mini backfire sounds when it's idling and if i drive it hard it goes away, but when i give it a little gas it comes back agian and goes away -_-;

There are a bunch of threads on here about some basic maintenance stuff that should help. Generally, new plugs, new air filter, fresh oil, etc. should help reduce the emissions. It does sound like it might be a misfire from your results and the description of the idle burbling. New plugs should help. New plug wires might help, too, if you find that the current wires are old and deteriorated.
