Question Failed Illinois emissions test

HELP- My '93 Touring just failed the Illinois emissions test. Both Hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide were twice the allowable limit. The car is stock with the exception of a PFS Intake. I just completed most of the reliability mods and had new plugs and wires put in this summer.

Anybody have any suggestions on how to get it to pass?

I was thinking of a DP and High Flow cat next year but my MAZDA RX7 mechanic said he did not think it would pass emissions. Anyone in Illinois have similar problems?

I can't imagine not being able to drive this baby!!

hows your air pump? Did you change the oil before the test? Checked your vacuum lines?

how's your exhaust smell? if it smells funny then is the air pump working? no holes or cracks in the rubber hose going from the airpump to the acv? a crack would give you those symptoms because not enough air would get to the catalytic converter at idle.

Thanks for your replies.

The air pump seems to be functioning properly. No funny smells from the tail pipe.

The car has 1800 miles since the last oil change. I was going to try an new oil change and to see if any gas additives are sold for emissions testing.

The vacuum hoses visually seem o.k. from what I can tell. My boost gauge says I get great boost (about 13-14 lbs.@2500 rpms) during WOT. The Air/Fuel meter reads o.k. maybe slightly rich for a second or two during WOT. I therefore assume there are no vacuum or hose problems.

Any other ideas or expiriences??
