Failed Emissions

I bought my FD about a month ago and am now in the process of getting it registered.

I had the car's emission tested (Connecticut), and I failed pretty badly.

Here are the results:
HC Limit = 220 My Results = 596 @2500 rpm
CO (%) Limit = 1.20 My Results = 4.68 @ 2500rpm

During Idle the car passed.
HC Limit = 220 My Results = 114 @ 1100 rpm
CO (%) Limit = 1.20 My Results = 0.05 @ 1100rpm

Seems like a big gap there. If the CAT is hollowed out, will it still pass at idle but not @ 2500 rpm? I'm wondering if the previous owner hollowed it out. I'm new to the rotory engine and will take any advise as to what I should follow up on.

Thanks,
-Matt

Move to a state with no smog check. Then you can mod the car to you heart's desire and not have to worry about uncle sam bringing it to ya.

What kind of stupid advice is this? You want someone to quit their job, leave their friends and family, sell their house and belongings they can't take with them over a car and just so they won't have to worry about a freakin' smog check? Please...

its most likely your cats, because i have ghetto cats and a airpump on my fc, and i passed. the engine has a 1/4 bridge port.
so i think a totally stock fd should have no problems, unless motor is going.
im also from ct, if youd like I and some other rotorheads could take a looky. let me know.

I was thinking it's the cats also. It's the 1st thing i'm going to have to check. I think the guy before me may have hollowed it out.
With a hollowed cat, will it be loud? Mine isn't loud at all but maybe it's due to the muffler.

If its your cat i would have failed the low speed also. Whats the o2 readout on the smog printout. If your air pump and air control valve is not working properly theres no way you can pass a smog test.

My son failed a test with his fd. Getting a little oil out of the secondary turbo seal. It was much better at idle, but he failed both. They put the cars on a dyno here in Texas. I would suspect you could have a similar problem. Try a fresh oil change, get the temps good and hot and take it back. They also advertise here in Texas a fuel additive called RXP, they claim it helps with the HC part of the test. I've never used it in a 7.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that RXP.
