factory ecu

What tuning can be done to the factory ecu is there a cheaper alternative to the expensive power fc?

You can get OEM-based Pettit/M2/RE Amemiya or the like units used for about $300 that will work with basic bolt-ons.

New PFCs with Commanders can be had for ~$700 - so these OEM units make less sense than they used to. The dreaded 3k rpm hesitation is an issue and the monitoring capabilities of the Commander are useful.

the PFC is not expensive by any means compared to most aftermarket ECUs.

you'll find out that owning a 7 you will encounter that this car is more expensive to maintain/upgrade than most cars out there and the lack of support lately is making it worse

If you think the PFC is too much, you should just keep your car stock and use your money for maintaining what you have. IMHO
