There are pictures on here somewhere of this sneaky mod. I think I recall Theorie did it, and some others.
I got some cf sheets here to make a new lid for my M2 intake box: https://www.rockwestcomposites.com
One step ahead of you.

FYI I did a similar thing a while back and had great results: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...temps-1070765/

Isolating the IC ducting and extending the duct into the bumper opening is a must-do and will greatly reduce intake temps even with a stock IC.

I believe I observed the reverse suction and intake of hot air at idle just like SA3R. If you look at the ducting layout on a 93 it makes sense that this would happen; the air is just following the path of least resistance.

Thanks for the FB. In reading this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-gene.../#post12042269, check out post #14 and the opening on the Knights Sport duct. I may have to add a little more of an extension as long as I am working on it.

I made mine from fiberglass with the help of a friend. my v-mount is custom made from an old greddy FMIC.

I ducted everything separately. one duct for radiator, one for intercooler. I also made a post duct on top of the intercooler to direct air under the UIM towards the coils. This prevents the air slamming into my hood.

My intake temps are usually 0C-22C depending on temp outside. I also have my intake sucking in air from the front bumper. We have tested different configurations and sizes of intercoolers. We found that getting cold air into the intake is HUGE, and the intercooler ducting is important, but not as important as getting fresh ambient air into the intake.

I am modifying my set up to run an efr turbo and had to pie cut my intake piping but I got it to work pretty well.

I also moved up to a 25 row dual oil coolers ducted.

Been working on a duct for my ebay smic. this is a first (and very rough) mock up of the duct. The fit is good but I want to smooth out a lot of the sharp edges and enlarge the interior too.

Yes, it has a bigger opening.
I may need to relocate my fuse box or adjust the duct in that area.

I am just about finished. I ordered this DEI wrap for $22 to reflect some of the heat, make it look a little prettier and hopefully seal the seams.

Finished

The duct is basically done. Hope to get the car out this week and see what kind of temps I have now. I was able to incorporate the "even cheaper bastard" CAI mod into the PFS airbox. I used $4 worth of 7/32" vacuum hose to create the seal at the IC.
