Experienced 3rd gen owners, help me spend 4k on my bone stock rx7

hello all... yes i'm a newbie to the rx7 game... heres the link to my car i bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ADME:B:BN:MT:1

i know that i need to take car of reliability issues.... so i'll list off what i was thinking and you tell me if i'm headed in the wrong direction...

replace all vaccuum hoses, replace ast can, replace radiator w/ koyo, check boost and oil pressure, replace plugs and wires, install turbo timer, boostgauge, oil pressure and temp gauge, water temp gauge. am i missing some stuff

now for mods...i am using this car as my weekend car... maybe 4000 miles a year..

first off was cat back exhaust and downpipe, along with intake system,FMIC, greddy elbow, remapped ecu?, bigger wastegate? apexi BOV kit

suspension....tein springs

Now i am new to the turbo game..... i'm coming from a 600hp+ z06 and the all mighty v8 so if anything i listed is completely wrong or ignorant please just help me not jump all over me for being new. i want to do things right but i don't want to stay stock.

i have 4k to spend on this car right now..... please help me do it right the first time. thanks guys

Your absolute best mod when it comes down to it as far as i'm concerned will be a Stand alone fuel management syst. Whether you go Haltek, PowerFC, AEM... is up to you, most will say PowerFC, That's what I use and love it. Your heading in the right direction, reliability mods then performance.
The reliability mods are easy and cheap so you can get those out of the way fast, your performance mods in between intake and FMIC should be where you want your fuel management. Or if you start out with fuel management since it will likely be the most expensive then your set to go wherever with other mods although retuning will be necessary.

Please learn to use the search function. There is a WEALTH of knowledge here and it's still current. Once you've spent about a month reading it, then come back and ask specific questions. This is the last car on earth you want to rush into "modding" things.

Here's some to get you started:

The PFC will either come with a Base map or a Base Mod Map. The mod map is for all the bolt ons. The poblem you'll have even with those maps is the appropriate AFRs. If you buy a wideband, you'll be able to monitor and adjust your AFRs. If you purchase a Datalogit and a wideband you'll have more versatility and tuning ability.

Your Vette was a beauty, good luck with the FD.

Could always drop a LS1 into the engine bay.

Just kidding.. You are heading in the right direction from what I can tell. I used to refer to this link for a good idea on what to do next on my car. http://turborx7.com/recomend.htm

There are a lot of knowledgeable people in this forum. Use it to your advantage!

BTW: Welcome to the hobby! It is now time to learn the true meaning of a bottomless money pit!

dont get a koyo rad. its to thick .. you will have issues when you put a front mount like you said you want to. get fluidyne. take care of the cooling system first. if the car runs cool you will get alot of life from the engine. unless you detonate. get a re maped ecu of maybe a power fc. there is a lil something called a thermal bypass pillet . look into it and get it. its like 8 bucks. it will keep your rotors lubed at all times instead of only when the car is warmed up. change all coolant lines and elimate any unneccary ones (trottle body). run distilled water and just a bit of antifreez . antifreez keeps too much heat. take off your fpr vac line from the solinoid and run it direct to a vac nipple . zip tie it. make sure your map sensor vac hose is zip tied. if you gona get a remapped ecu then get a lower temp thermoswitch. the stock one make the car run too hot.the power fc can be prog. to turn on at a lower temp. blah blah blah i could go on for days. but you get the point.

knowing what I know now, I would never have purchased a bone stock FD (even with 12k miles)

but it's been an interesting journey over the last 7 years

well i ove getting into new stuff.... i went from a modded s2000 to the z06 and now the 7....

again number one priority is reiablilty... from my research that means checing boost for leaks and ....cooling cooling cooling.. also, with mods should come a apexi pfc... and setting the boost at no more than 10psi....that is the overall view to keep the engine healthy...i am reading ever little bit and taking it to heart...the rx7 store is my new favorite site besides this one... i look forward to more suggestions and guidence.

congrats on your purchase, nice car, nice price.I hope the compression is still good.I bought all of my mods on this forum and saved about 1500$.Two questions, do you have a tuner near you? if so mod away.If you have to rely on a mazda dealer like me,its better to go with a pettit ecu and all bolt ons.You can swap back your stock ecu and a competent mazda tech should be able to fix your car. I have installed a defi boost gauge, downpipe, racingbeat catback,m2 stage 3 ecu and apexi intake.greddy smic for about 1400$$.

You may just want to ddo what cool vette saud and buy a pre-programmed ECU like the a used M2 or Pettit. You buy one used for $350-450 and then resell it once you out-grow for near what you bought it for. And then buy a stand alone programmabel ECU($1000+) plus a wide band o2 sensor($300-500). You shouldn't have to deal with tuning until you have to.

Just my .02

I wouldn't bother to change the vacumn lines unless (a) it shows signs that it needs it (b) you are comfortable and competent with engine work and you are a patient person.
