Exhaust Wrap==Smoking like a chimney

I wraped my downpipe and midpipe with DEI exhaust wrap today. After letting the car fully warm large amounts of smoke began to under the car. The exhaust wrap is giving off huge amounts of smoke!!! Is this normal??? Is there a coating that has to burn off or something??

BTW- THe downpipe is for an Apexi rx-6(3.5in) and the midpipe is a dynomax 3.5in

I believe it is, mine smoked really bad too and smelled awful. Mine was also painted with the recomended high temp paint too. I don't think it was the same manufacture as yours though.

the exhaust wrap actually has to mold itself to the pipe by heat..so the smoke you speak of is the wrap molding to the pipe its normal. but if it persists then...hmmm

burning

The downpipe is wrapped and doesn't burn off. The turbo, NOTHING will hold up. I have DEE's R85 kit and every wrap I try it burns the hell up. I m trying to keep the engine bay cooler, good luck right! It smokes like a bitch too but is made of fiberglass so I no it cant catch fire.

Mine smoked for a day, and carried a weird odor for months. I used the same DEI stuff. One day I might just take it off and pitch it. I don't like working with/near the downpipe now that it's wrapped.
