exhaust cut-out/bypass of cat-back muffler

I'd like to run either an electric or manual exhaust cut-out that would bypass my Trust cat-back muffler.

I am running a resonated mid-pipe.

Any issues other than having my PFC re-tuned for it ?

I already have a low (10-psi) and high (14-psi) map on the PFC from Steve Kan.

Would it be better to have a RPM "trigger" that OPENS the cut-out above 4500 RPM and have both maps tuned for it, OR just manually OPEN when I select the high boost map ?

BTW: I had a slight exhaust leak while on the track, and she felt so much better "un-corked" at the cat-back muffler.

What he's saying is that typically those cutout go before a catalytic converter. So you can flip a switch and bypass the cat for the track days. If you have already removed your catalytic converter, the cutout won't give you much at that point.

That was directed to the original poster to explain your comment. I forgot to preface my post with the original posters name.

Mahjik,

I have a Trust SP cat-back muffler, which I have been told is very restrictive. Is this true ?

Hence, when I had the exhaust leak between the resonated mid-pipe (Magnaflow muffler) and the Trust SP cat-back, the engine spun easier and the acceleration under boost was much better.

I think that was a placebo. The Greddy/Trust SP is one of the better flowing (and sounding) catback available. Your Magnaflow muffler would probably be more of a restriction that your cat-back.

There are some exhaust which are fairly restrictive (old style HKS Dragger, Racing Beat, etc) but IMO its not worth the hassle of the cut-outs. As already mentioned, they are really designed for by-passing converters.

I have that cat back and made over 570HP with it. I also had it with a racing beat 3inch presilencer and made over 550HP with that setup.

Wow, I didn't now the Trust SP was that good.

Perhaps I should replace my Magnaflow mid-muffler.

Any recommendations ?

TIA,
