error code 3

when i try starting my car.....my airbag light gives me 3 short flashes (my car is a stock 1998 j-spec) so no CEL light on the dashboard.......i have read that the error code 3 is for crank angle G sensor.......if this sensor isnt working will the car start??.......when i crank it seems that it almost wants to start......then i see the flashes on the dashboard while trying to crank. Can someone please tell me what this sensor does?? and if its not working will my car start??
Thanks
Tahmid

that is the crank signal the g sensor fwiw. i would look at the wiring near it and also the connectors. sometimes the crank will chew the wires if the get loose.
