Engine year

Does anyone know how to tell the year of your engine by using only the motor??

I have an REW and the guy I got it from said he thought it was out of a '97 or '99 Rx7 I dont know for sure, and If I want to order an aftermarket computer, I should know... Are there any casting# codes that say on the motor anywhere???

The cores are interchangable. The electical harness will dictate the series year computer you use

Actually I dont have the computer, or the (cradle? The part the computer chip attaches into) Hopefully that tag will be there, if its not, any other ideas? The wires that were leading to the harness were cut, when the motor was pulled... all 20some of them. thanks for your help

It's simple. You buy a new '95 wiring harness and hook it up to the engine, discarding the existing wires connected to the engine. Then you use a stock/chipped ecu or a PFC for the US cars. Or if you are going Haltech or something, just remove the existing wires and make your new harness.

honestly, i bought a PFC before i ever learned about Haltech then somebody that loves Haltech totally, now i'm selling my PFC b/c if you look at it to get the same stuff out of the PFC it costs way more.....for a PC interface using the Datalogic that's an extra 375, then the electronic boost controller is another 400 and the PFC doens't even have a O2 wideband input...the Haltech has all of those except the electronic boost controller but that's only 80 bucks if you decide to get it.....in my opinion, Haltech is just a better deal and it seems to perform better considering you get full use of the ECU when you get it.
