Exclamation engine temp kill switch

Since we have alot of smart people on the forum, how hard would it be to make a switch/thingmagig that turned the motor off when it reached a cetain temp?

Maybe a set temp inbetween normal operating temp and overheating. Something that might save the motor when it started to overheat.

I know most of the time the motor is toast anyways when it starts to overheat but there are cases where AST's split, coolant line leak, water pump, etc.

Any thoughts?

You might be better off getting a warning light. I think you can get them at SUmmitt. WHen your cars get to a certain temp it will flash you like a shift light almost so you can pull over. You dont want an engine kill, what if you are monving...

If you were on the highway that could potentially be very dangerous! I agree with NeedTwins. Get a light.

if your water temperature is close enough to overheating that it would be advantageous to set up an automatic shut-off relay, i think turning off the engine probably would not help much.

when i turn off my car, i have noticed that heat sink has actually brought the temperature up higher since the car is not moving and air is not flowing through the radiator fins.

and you might be driving, say, in the middle of a drift... how would you power out of the turn without going off the side of the cliff without any power?

You're right, It could be very dangerous. I thought of the heat sink part but figured it would be better to leave hot coolant in their rather then letting it get hotter. The light idea is great, didn't know they had an aftermarket one. Guess I should TTT better next time.

Try that from autometer, might help. Look around, they have different colors, temps, all kind of goodies...

Question Not on the topic but related

Has anyone installed the electric water pump in a street FD? I think Summit sells them. It would be nice to thave that circulate water through the Rad after shutdown.
