Engine Start button

I know this has been discussed to the point of being retarded, but I have a question for those of you who have done this. Is it possible to wire up an Engine Start button without having to still use your key? I just personally don't see the point in doing the button when you still have to use your key in the ignition. If there's a way around that then please let me know because I do love the look of an engine start button. Thanx in advance. Laterz.

I think its for the cool factor. All the chicks want to push the "button", I dunno, I always thought it was kinda ricerish?

I think you want to still use your key, unless your button scans fingerprints and stuff, in that case, I want two!

We could post how to do it but if we do, we would also be telling you exactly how to steal a FD fairly fast and easily. Some might argue that locks only keep out the innocent but I'd still rather keep out the semi stupid car theives as well I'm gonna make them get a tow truck to gank my car haha

the easiest way your probally gonna do this is to just break the key off in the ignition after you had turned it to the on position.

There are ways around it ...But if you do that , you might also want to have a battery kill switch you mostly likely want to hide this some where so it could act like some kinda sercurity ...

There are some start button on the market now , from HKS(which is in carbon fibre very cool) to Ignited. I think would just be amatter of of taking out the key ignition and rewiring some lines...

Skunks, I was planning on doing a hidden batt disconnect switch when I did this. I just like the clean appearance of a start button versus a keychain dangling around and making noise.

Sumguy, thanks for the link to the HKS unit!! That looks like it will be the ticket once I figure out how to rewire everything after the ignition is removed. I'd like to leave it in there, but that whole wheel lock business and all. I'll just fashion a cover for the hole. But thanks again for that link. That's just what I was looking for. Laterz.

I have a push button start, but kept the key feature for the steering wheel lock. As others have said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to ******* thieves!

Hate to bring this thread back from the dead after 2 years but I want to just have the push start without a key as well. I'm going to have a battery kill switch mounted under the steering column for safety. If someone can point me in the right direction please PM me.

Seams pretty easy to me.

Get the push button start kit & wire it in.

Next remove the steering column shroud & insert your ignition key. With the key in the "on" position push the pin in to release the ignition switch lock.

This will remove the steering lock feature as well. You ignition will now always be on, unless you use a screwdriver to turn the switch on off (getto & defeats the propose.

This is where you hook up a battery cutoff switch.

End result a lot of work & steps to start, drive & stop your car.

To each his own. It does ooze cool factor with your friends.
