Engine Serial #'s Mean Anything?

While putting a gasket around the oil filler neck of my 93 RX-7 I noticed two sets of numbers and letters engraved on each side of the oil filler neck According to the 93 workshop manual (pages GI-10), this is the engine number. Do the numbers stamped or engraved on the left and right side of oil filler neck mean anything. I was hoping they would give me a clue as to when the engine was manufactured. The numbers and letters engraved are "JB496," and "RK97."

Any help in answering this question would be helpful. No one seems to know what I am talking about.

Thanks,

Dustin

It seems that I may have stumped the forum. I am now going to have to change my whole philosophical view on life because no one could answer my question at the forum.

Seriously, no one seems to be able to give me an answer- not even the dealer (big surprise). I was hoping that this would give me information as to when or if the engine had been rebuilt. I've called Mazda, the dealer, etc., but no one will tell me the vehicle's maintenance history or the answer to this question. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dustin
