Its time for me to do a rebuild. I know what Im going to do about the engine itself. Im getting a reman and having it ported ect. My question is can my dad and I pull the old one ourselfs and how much time we are looking at for the job? or should I pay to have it done?
Are there any major problems that we would run into or is it pretty straight foward and just time consuming?

We dont have the neccesary tools at home to do it but my grandfather does. The problem with that is that its 6 hours away and I can only work on it during Thanksgiving and Christmas if we do it there. I have a friend whos dad has a shop that he uses for his car and some of his friends cars. I might be able to use his if my car isnt taking up space for a long period of time.

By the way im 17 so I dont know how much help I can be to my dad if we do this. We changed the clutch ourselfs a couple of days before the engine went and thats the extent of my mechanical experince.

What should I do?

I pulled the motor on a running (but leaky) 93 on Saturday in 2hrs 30 min. I drove it into the garage and a couple hrs later the engine and trans assy was laying on the floor.

Do a search, you should find a decent write up that I did a while back.

Pull the engine and trans together. Pull the wiring through the firewall, DO NOT attempt to pull it off the engine.

2hrs 30 is a good time. I think 2hrs 42 is what I did it in a few weeks ago.

It certainly can be done by anyone in their home garage. A rebuild is a bit tougher, but if you are just moving everything to another "fresh" engine then it is a great learning experience and I recommend it.

The Turrentine R&R video is not very good compared to the rebuild video.

I didn't learn much of anything new watching it. In fact I pulled the motor with the tranny and installed with the tranny whereas Bruce does it separated. He doesn't show you any trick on pulling the harness thru the firewall, how to disconnect the AC compressor from the engine, how to move parts over, hose diagram, what to check for with solenoids, check valves.

If you have never pulled anything major off a car, it might be good as background. I'll sell you mine for $10 shipped.
