One of the more high-effort 3rd gen RX7's I've seen was the Jeff Kiesel's 7parts.com autocross car around 2006 or 2007. I don't know if he moved the engine or transmission like you're describing, but he ran in a class that allowed lots of modifications, and did lots of fabrication to reduce weight and make the car handle well. He sold it years ago, and has been running a modified Bugeye Sprite with a turbo 13B in a similar class.
