Hello everybody,
im pretty sure that my RX7 needs a rebuild as i think the engines internal water seals have gone. havnt done a compresion test yet but the signs are there

Questions:-
1. Are the internal water seals called apex seals? or are they OEM seals bit confused?

2. also has anyone uploaded a manual of how to do a successful engine rebuild? (images help) as i dont mind gettin my hands dirty and have all the tools

3. or does any one know where to get a rebuild done at in england?

4. also anyone know where i can get a gun to kill the f**k who sold me it like this?

love my Rx7 more than anything any help would be great thanks

1. No, they are actually large O-rings, one outer and an inner. There are 4 sets.

The internal water seals are called Coolant O-Rings. They are different from Apex Seals.

"Sucessful" rebuild all depends on the rebuilder. You can have all the steps to do it but without the experience for having done it before, you can make mistakes. Having said that, search the forum for "rebuild video". You'll find information on several of them floating around. I don't think you'll be able to download one, but you can find a link to purchase one.

Also, the Factory Service Manual (FSM) has the information in it as well. But, the FSM is intended to be more of a reference guide, not really an exact How-To. You can find links to downloading the FSM's at the top of this forum (but for earlier year RX-7's than yours). While the components around the engine won't necessarily match your car, the short block engine disassembly/assembly will be the same.

in response to your questions
1) The coolant seals are large rubber rings that keep water out of the combustion chamber. A compression test will generally not tell you anything about those. Another name for these seals would be water jacket o-ring. To check for failure remove the radiator cap or AST cap with the engine cold. Start the engine and watch for a stream of bubbles coming up. The bubbles will be combustion gasses escaping through the seals and into the cooling system.
Apex seals are the "scrapers" that seal combustion chambers from each other. They are located at each corner, or apex of the triangular rotor. OEM would refer to using factory steel apex seals vs. aftermarket steel or ceramic. These are not related to water sealing in any way.

2) I am not sure about uploaded manuals for rebuilding, but I know there are instructional videos you can buy from several rebuilders.

4) your local street corner thug should be able to hook you up with his vendor.
