Engine Cradle

Anyone know what a powerplant frame goes for, new and or used? I don't know if I am using the right name for it, but it what the engine sits on. A picture can be found (3rd pic down in this thread)?

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/cym-project-begins-359731/

is this the engine cradle or the powerplant frame? Or are they same thing, and what do they run used?

Yeah, it's the front subframe. Shouldn't be super hard to find one used from someone parting out a car.

New, it's probably gonna be mighty pricey.

I see them in the classifieds periodically for about $200.

Now that you know the proper name you can search for one.

Huh? Easy there killer.... "Subframe" and "engine cradle" are both correct words to describe it. Most people in the RX-7 community tend to call it a subframe due to the fact that the suspension also mounts to it. However, if you want to be technically accurate, the Mazda FSM refers to it as the Front Crossmember.

Jesuscookies - just as an FYI, the Powerplant Frame (or PPF) rigidly attaches the tranny to the diff case. Kind of similar to an old-school torque arm. A subframe/cradle/crossmember/whatever can usually be found for just a few hundred dollars (as sonny mentioned).

Cool, thanks. I am mulling over the idea of modifying one of these engine cradles to fit an FD engine into my RX 2. I have a cut crossmember in the RX2 that is no longer worth a ****, (no I did not cut it) so I figured this may be the answer. I know it is reinveting the wheel to an extent, but since my crossmember is cut, I figured it may be worth a try.
