I have access to 3rd gens that have been salvaged due to engine burns. Now can these cars be saved? I want to get one and fix it, so can they be fixed by puting a new motor and ECU in them? If so can any parts from the old motor be saved? and can the trany be saved? I would really like to try it because I all ready have a nice car that is not a 3rd gen, but I am looking for a cheep way to get a 3rd gen. Thanks for any help.

I am looking for a 3rd gen, how much does a fd with a burned engine usually run? And where can you get them? if its cheap enough i would put a pettit raring racing engine for $3200. and would have a bad *** fd for les than 10,000! you could do the same thing.

I fixed an engine burn 93 in Dec/Jan. Didn't need a new motor, just engine harness, injectors, solenoid rack, ACV, etc. The ECU was just fine.

The Petit racing motor you suggest for $3200 isn't really gonna have anything you need to fix an engine burn. If life was that simple it'd be great. Figure you'll need a lot of the "soft" parts in the engine bay depending on how bad the fire was. I'm talking about anything that isn't solid metal, sensors, coils, alternator, solenoids, a/c, PS, wiring, hoses, etc, etc. It all really depends on how bad the fire was.

Also, the car will be a salvage title and worth much less that a non-salvage car, even if you fix it to better than new condition. Just letting you know this is not a super cheap way to get an FD.
