engine builders, any DIYs?
I posted this in the "General Rotary Tech Support," buy nobody ever goes in that forum. So, check out my thread:

i've rebuilt mine a couple of times.they're simple but tricky to rebuild.for example, the coolant seals have a tendency to move a little when putting on the rotor housings.once that is done you have to get the rotors into the housings without having the pieces from one side falling off;if they do you just put them in and try again. then, you have to put in the apex seals and that can get tricky your first couple of times.then you do it over once more for the top rotor.see its not that difficult but from the time you start you should be finished within about 1 hour because you need to use silicone sealant at varying points.i used the manual as a guidline, didn't have a video.also i have blown a couple of apex seals but i think it was just too much boost(around 16)combined with the fact that:
first time i reused everything except coolant seals and gaskets, blew apex seal
second time i got new apex seals (atkins 2 piece),used old rotors, had housings and endplates lapped, blew apex seal "slightly",ruined 1 rotor, housings ok luckily.i think this time was because i didnt have oil with me,alredy filled the tank and the gas mixture was way off(i premix)it blew on the way home from the gas station
third time. put in another old rotor on 1 side with new apex seals, thats where i'm at now.i have reused all the old side and coner seals, springs, apex seal springs every time.i also ported it myself with plates from mazdatrix and using an air grinder and rotary files, its pretty easy just be careful not to nick any surfaces.i know this is a way long post but i just want to let you know how difficult it may or may not be.i tried to do it cheap but this winter i may get all new parts and have a motor ready to go for next year.i think part of my problem is using old rotors and the seal grooves are worn a little bit so the apex seals are "slapping" against each groove side during the transition from intake to compression.you might be able to avoid that by having them milled for 3mm seals.
