Engine build HYLOMAR??

Hi im in the middle of some engine work (replacing coolant seals). I was wondering what does hylomar do for a build because when i rebuilt my first engine 4 years ago i never used this product. (i watched a video on Youtube where guys where using hylomar in between rotor housings and side plates. If anyone can shed any light on how and why i should use this product. thanks again

It's used to hold O-rings and coolant seals in place when you're stacking the motor together. Since they basically have to stay in place upside down against the housings/irons. I used a product called Crisco like others have and it worked fine.

Hylomar is a gasket dressing. It is very useful in holding the coolant o-rings in place and helps make a better seal. Some use crisco or petroleum jelly, but I have had better results with Hylomar. I apply it to the coolant o-ring grooves with a syringe. We use in in every rebuild.

You just have to be careful with any petroleum based product as it can make 'O' rings enlarge/get soft. Crisco, being a vegetable oil, works good. I still prefel Hylomar, I'd heard it was going to be taken out of production so went and bought a few tubes of it.

You can still order it. Make sure you get the solvent free version, which is exactly what Permatex marketed as Hylomar HPF. The stuff atkins gives out with their kits is the solvent based, which is tough to work with.
