EMAP on Stock Exhaust manifold

Hello,

has anyone installed an EMAP Sensor on a stock exhaust manifold?
I'm look for some pictures for the best location. I also want to know if cracks are forming near the EMAP port.

regards
Bastian

Well, I can't say much for an EMAP port, but I drilled and tapped my stock cast manifold for EGT probes and that never cracked. Only problem is that once you get the probe holders screwed in to the manifold and run it through a heat cycle, you won't be getting them out. Just be wary of the heat shield location and you shouldn't have any issue.

you can better tap the intake manifold in the port just below the primary intake ports on the center housing. This is afaik the EGR pasage and comes thorugh the side housings into the exh ports and will read the pressure where it counts..

If you have esessive LIM you need to drill just in the center of X on the logo.

Bottom line is for the emapsensor. Top one is for the anti wet port.

.
its the "Port Air" passage for the air pump air, EGR is on the rear side housing

Clever use of legacy smog gear. I don't know why I never considered that.

You can put your turbo compressor to throttle plate bypass there too for anti-lag (obviously with much bigger tubing).

Looking for some more feedback on using the port air passage for EMAP - any issues there? Seems like it's a bit TOO easy? I still plan on running a canister and cooling line as well.

you might get funky readings at idle, air pump air goes into the engine, which is why the idle changes when the air pump is removed.

and then B some builders flip the housings around and this blocks off that port.

Here is how mine routed, my housings are reversed front/rear, so the B port was blocked, but A port has worked great for EMAP

Very interesting, assuming this would be a bit cooler than grabbing it direct from the exhaust manifold too?
I'd like to avoid having to spend 150+ on a cannister, this looks a good solution!

You would run a canister either way IMO - I'm sure people don't and just run a stainless line but if you're going to measure EMAP might as well do it right without having to constantly disconnect/remove the 170 dollar sensor. The heat will kill them really fast and it's not going to be much cooler I would imagine coming out of the LIM.

wonder how accurate this is compared to putting it directly in manifold? I'm interested in doing it, my 2 bungs are currently being used for EGTS

Does anyone actually have measured emp numbers from any of the the various locations? I have measured it from the common port on the stock exhaust manifold with various twins setups.

I have some log data, I just don't really have a bunch of time to pull it up at the moment, but Here's how I ended up doing mine for anyone else trying to do this. Using the right metal bit, and low RPM is key to drilling into the exhaust manifold. Use a tapered reamer to get the NPT tap to thread all the way through.
