Question Electrical Q part deux

Alright, this is some wacko sh*t!

Same cluster question as before...

When the key is in the ign and turned to ON the cluster works great all is functional.

When the car is started the cluster works great registering the RPMs as the starter turns the car over.

When the car is running, cluster goes wacko! Coolant guage is pegged, oil pressure guage is pegged...tach and speedo are zero.

Now the PFC shows rpms all the time even if the cluster is not working. The pfc does not show speed if the cluster is not working. When the cluster is working the speed shows up on the commander.

Now if I havent lost you yet....

With the car on jackstands...I turn the steering wheel 'til it wont turn anymore and the p/s pump starts to reduce the idle AND THE CLUSTER WORKS....wether I bottom out the steering wheel either way left or right directions. (cluster works when the p/s pump starts to really put out pressure).

NOW, still not done, when the wire/switch is remove from the power steering the cluster will not come on when the steering is bottomed out.

How in the hell is the p/s pump related to the cluster? It is not the cluster for it is all new...it is not the wiring above the pedals for I have moved them all around...so no short there.

But why does the tach register on the PFC at any time whether the cluster works or not...but the speedo does not...until the cluster works.

This is driving me insane.

PLEASE HELP!

check your alternator, maybe the control unit is bad.
when you activate your power steering, it puts more load on the engine and slowsdown the rpm or increase...whichever...

Thanks reza <---saved my *** a few previous times!

I had the alternator rebuilt when I got it polished....but thanks for the feedback I will test the alternator today. When the power steering starts pushing hydraulic pressure (with the steering wheel bottomed out) the rpms actually reduce a little under the load then the cluster works.

But what does the p/s function have to do with the cluster?

Thanks

Also, the p/s system is pulley driven and outside the single wire switch on the top, has no other electrical connections.

What does that switch do anyway?
