ELD computer - where the heck is it?

Hey kids -

Here's my kinda newbie post for the month .

According to the shop manual, up above the ECU somewhere there should be an ELD (electrical load) computer. This has the various inputs to it for the ECU to determine electrical load, and the load changes idle, etc.

Reason I'm trying to find it is for a keen idea I had. The PowerFC lights up the exhaust overheat light as a warning - too much injector duty cycle, for example, and it lights. Reason being the exhaust overheat light is on the dash on Japanese cars, where it's easy to see. Under my elbow is not a good place for a warning light . So, I want to tap that wire into the check engine light so it will light with a PFC warning condition. From what I can tell, the light on the dash comes from the ELD unit, not the ECU, so I need to find it to cleanly tap the wire in.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dale

Hehe - found it :)

It's a sneaky guy. Unbolt the ECU - it's a silver box on a bracket up behind the ECU. It has a Mitsubishi logo on the sticker, and the harness going to it is wrapped in yellow tape. The actual plug that connects to it is black.

Attached is a kickass picture I took .

Gotta love how I answer my own damn questions on the forum. Oh, it's tough being a guru some days .

I don't believe I have ever seen the exhaust light come on when my duty cylces exceeded the setting. Does yours light up? If not, you may want to poll a few PFC guys to make certain that function works before going through all that effort.

Here's my writeup in the PFC section on making the warning light for the PowerFC useful -

Very simple mod, just one wire.
