Eibach Springs

I'm thinkin about putting some of the Eibach pro kit springs on my car with the factory shocks. Will this combo be OK untill I can get some nicer shocks? Anyone have experience with this set-up?

I was thinking of getting these springs too but I would replace all of it at once instead of one piece at a time. That should save you some work in the long run but then again I can't afford both at once at this point in time

thats what i have right now. didn't do the shocks because my tax rebate only covered the springs
works great -lower, better feel. haven't gotten to test it at an autox yet but so far so good.
oh and install was pretty easy. i had some help but could have done it without. just would have been more work. since you have to take the shocks out when you install the springs you'll at least know how easy it is when you go back to do shocks. my only suggestion is to get (rent) a motorized spring compressor. that was the hardest part!

Thumbs up

I really like the setup.

I just wanted a little better handling and the car a little lower into the wheel well gaps. What I ended up with was a lot better handling and the car a little lower into the wheel well gaps.

The ride is much rougher. It didn't seem as rough the first week or so after the springs were installed, but after they settled in you could really feel the road. It is a sports car after all.

Cool Dr. Wankel

I recommend this only if you have a stock R1 with good R1 "hard" shocks (not leaking). The base, pep, or touring shocks may not be stiff enough to handle the Eibachs's stiffer spring rates--once you exceed the Eibach's 1-inch of soft compression (Eibachs have progressive spring rates--the higher the compression force, the higher the spring rate).

I have H&R springs mounted on stock R1 shocks. Excellent handling on the road race circuit and cone course, and very good ride quality on the public roads. The H&Rs are slightly shorter than Eibach, and spring compressors were NOT needed to do the install. The H&Rs do lower the FD's ride height more than the Eibachs do.

Since you'll have everything apart, I recommend replacing all the rubber components--rubber sheets, and pillow ball mounts. You'll be astounded how much better the ride is with brand new rubber suspension parts!
