eh... major problem?

If the car smokes alot in the beginning and then stops after being on the road a minute or 2 a major problem?
This is was the condition explained to me by the owner. Could it be a coolent seal?

Dpends on color of the smoke whether it's coolant or not. However if it goes away after a minute or two it could just be condensation or something similar.

start the car and quickly get out and smell what you have coming out of the exhaust (fuel, oil or coolant). hopefully for you it smells like gas. oil or coolant smell means bad things such as bad turbos, coolant seals or possible apex seal (not as likely). you can also check your coolant and see if there are tiny bubbles in it while the car is running. if you see them, you likely have a bad coolant seal.
