EGT #'s

I just installed a EGT gauge this weekend. About 6 inches from the turbo outlet on the downpipe.

I drove back from my buddies place about 75 miles. @75-80 mph EGT's where around 448-471c (840-880f) the whole time. Engine temp floats around 175-182f. From the post below the EGT's seem real low. I haven't seen any other info on EGT's. mods in my sig.

1) Idle (warmed up & O2 .80 -
- 450C (842f)
2) City driving (< 60
-550 - 650C (1022 - 1202f)
3) Highway driving (65-80 mph @ 0-10 inches/hg vacuum) - 700 - 760C (1292 - 1400f)
4) Banzai Runs (Max boost through 3rd & 4th / O2=.82-.84) - 780 - 820C (1436 - 1508f)

Thanks
Carl

Good thread because I need to compare #s also. I just got back from a 650mile round trip in my NA 20b and I see 1100-1200 degrees. A/F is in the 15.4 range with negative split. I must note that I don't have the exhaust sleeves as I built my sleeve into my header flange to match the stock exhaust port opening. The factory sleeve causes the exhaust to expand very quickly as soon as the exhaust exits the port. This expansion also causes the exhaust temp to lower just a bit because of the turbulence. With my sleeves, this doesn't happen as quickly but more gradually. My probes are 12" from the flange.

Ideally you want dual egt probes in the manifold. Personally I'd never run a rotary into the 14 afr even on cruise. Makes the car run hotter.

What do you consider too hot for cruise? My 20b never exceeds 190degrees at cruise.

I have probes about 2 inches from each port in the manifold and have O2 feedback set to run around 14 to 1 gas equivalent AFR's on E85 during idle and cruse. This is definitely where my car is happiest. Anything leaner or richer runs noticeably rougher. I have also never fouled a spark plug ever and I run NGK 7420 11 heat range plugs. EGT's are around 1000 to 1200 F at idle and around 1400 F during cruse. Boost in the low 20's is high 1500's to low 1600's. EGT's can get a little over 1800 F at around 32 psi.
