Unhappy EGT question

I just ordered an EGT gauge and probe for like 150 bucks!! My friend just told me i wasted my money because they are useless and the exhaust temperature will change with a downpipe, midpipe and catback??
Is that true, I haven't heard that one before?

Also anyone out there have good luck with EGT gauges? I heard they rapidly cool down/ heat up which will screw up the readings? thanks

I have a autometer that reads in F but the one I want is a greddy that reads C. I found it is a easy way to tune your car and keep a eye on your motor pluse I heard that a air/fuel guage isnt allways on the money.

IMO, depending on the rest of your mods, you probably did waste your money.

It "can" give you a reading has to how much more lean or rich the car is running, however, there are MANY factors that play into it (like where the sensor is located).

IMO, if you are looking to see information on A/F ratios, the only way to go is a wideband O2. Anything else is just ballpark guessing.

(BTW, yes I have an EGT gauge and I wish I didn't waste the money on it)
