I checked my errror codes, and it seems I have two problems....egr switch and intake thermosensor or something. Are these related? how bad are these? I'm having my car in to get a hose job, will that be a good time to replace it? Thanks...oh, it only comes on intermittently, but more often now. And also seems to only come on once car is warmed up. Apart from that, seems to be running fine (except for broken double throttle solenoid...) THanks.
well, I can answer just the part about being expensive. The answer is yes. If my memory serves me correctly (which is unlikely), the part was something like $150, and the dealer wanted something like $350 to change it. I bet you can do it yourself, or I'm sure the Rotary Power guys will do it for less than the dealership.
Let me know what you find out because I need to do mine too (maybe).

The EGR(exhaust gas recirculator) is not important and does not really make any emmissions difference. BUT, the Calif. model have a switch on theres and the ECU checks to insure it is working when it is suppose to be working. Mazda will charge a lot to replace it due to it's location.
The intake thermo sensor is used to help control fuel injection.
It is easy to replace.
air temp sensor - N3A1-18-845 $53.80 last time I bought one this year.
