efini y-pipe better?
efini y-pipe better?
i'll admit it, too lazy to do search...curious if the efini y-pipe does anything in terms of better performance, air flow, etc. i know it's more reliable in that it won't crack but besides that is it better than the regular one?
Some people have noticed a slight increase in flow resulting in some slightly higher boost readings. However, I wouldn't count on it.
Just get it because it's not plastic, and it looks better under the hood than the stock one.

The Efini Y-pipe replaces these two pipes with high quality aluminum pieces. The black plastic crossover tube has a tendency to crack on both ends and the rubber connector between the Y-pipe and crossover tube has a tendency to split. These cracks can be the source of hard-to-solve boost problems. The cracks can't be seen unless you remove the tube and pry it open, and yet under boost pressure the cracks open up and vent your boost (which is sometimes accompanied by a loud whooshing sound from under the hood). The Efini pipe also moves the air-bypass valve connection out of the air flow so it should breath a little better than the stock pipe. that help some? if not, ohwell.

Is the Efini Y pipe still usable if you go non sequintial with twins?? I'm planning on getting the BNR stage 2 upgrade but would like to get the Efini Y pipe as well just so long as I can use it if I decide to go non seq. All help would be appreciated.

I installed one a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was an easy install, and I'm no expert mechanic. Of course I compare everything to my downpipe install which was a "welded stuck bitch"!!
The y-pipe increased my boost. I had to do the home depot boost controller. I suggest doing the boost controller at the same time as the y-pipe so you don't have to remove all of the same stuff again.
I also have my stock air box mod.

It's just a straight bolt in. You get the y-pipe and a new aluminum tube that goes across the top to the existing flex tube. The rubber coupler is eliminated. It matches nicely with the intake manifold.
The 10 hp supposedly comes from better flow, and less expansion of the line duing boost. It no longer flexes upward during boost.

just look at your stock pipe then the efini pipe. The efini pipe has less bend and smoother lines on the inside which means better flow. Just like the exhaust and ports any thing relating to flow will create more power in relation to how heavily your car is modified for air fuel combustion.
