ECU problems?
Hey, I was wondering what does the number and letters mean on the top of the ECU's? I have a 1993rx-7 and sometime the hold button will engage off and on for no reason. I thought it might be the ECU messing up but I don't really know. Also my rx-7 is an auto and I have two ECU's for it one a N3A8 and the other is stock from the factory, I cannot remember what it has on it but I know it was different because I was afraid to change them. can anyone help?

The 93 autos had a recall on the ECU because of the flashing hold light....you may have a Mazda Remanufactured one (should have a sticker on it saying this). You may also be looking at the Auto Trans ECU which is smaller and attached to the main ecu.
I have the same hold flashing problem....I have replaced both the main and auto ECU's but have never solved it......I've gotten used to it now.
Maybe someone can shed more light?

Ok, this sounds the same as the JC Cosmo (90-95). They are all auto & flash the "Hold" light when a problem crops up.
Since the FD RX-7 was just a couple of years after (92-02) they did the same thing for the same problems.
Typically (on the Cosmo) if the hold light starts to flash, then you have a few choices. There is a major fault registering with the Trans ECU. Eg, burnt out soleniod, open circuit thermo sensor etc etc.
Another option is the wiring harness to the transmission. if any lines are open circuit then the "Hold" will flash.
On the Cosmo, the plug that attaches to the soleniods at the rear of the tranmission gets hot from the exhaust, goes brittle & cracks. This leads to bad connections to the soleniods & thus your flashing "Hold" light.
Perhaps the RX-7 has a similar "common problem".........
After 12 years of exhaust heat (92+) on a nearby plug, you can bet yours is getting brittle & resistive...........Good luck

where are these solenoids? are they on the outside of the tranny?
because my car gets very sluggish off the line once the car fully warms up.Im thinking one of these solenoid could be acting up from the heat.Ive also gotten the flashing hold light when the car has been driven hard for more that half an hour.
