ebay rx-7, advice?

anybody notice anything fishy?

An email from the dealer says that there is no smoking on startup, boost is good, but no compression test has been done.

everything original, as far as he knows.

carfax has been run and it is clear.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...41433684QQrdZ1

I notice some Peter Farrel parts in there... (PF?)

A boost gauge, etc.

looks real clean, and cheap.

Did the price of FD's come down so much in the past few years?

I haven't really looked seriously until today.

anybody?

Oh, this will be my weekend toy, to go with the WRX STI daily driver.

while it looks good u never really know, I bought my 93' thru ebay and always kinda regreted it cuz u cant physically see the car I bought it with ONLY "40k" turned out it wasnt, and it only lasted a few weeks til the engine blew and a year & a half and a couple thousands later, I fixed it. buyer beware is all I'm trying to say. u also really cant see the paint details mine looked gr8 in photos but in person the paint wasnt so gr8. just be careful. if u want to buy one its better to try to find one local, if u can.

100k miles? I hope it's not the original engine.
Yeah the intake, IC and the exhaust are PFS parts.
Ask for a comp test.

rx7's in nebraska

There aren't any.

This one is $616 to ship.

I too am afraid to buy something I haven't seen.

But this one "looks" great.

I was thinking about trading the STI in on a Honda S2000 and getting something crappy for a daily driver for winter in Nebraska.

But buying a RX-7 and keeping the STI for daily/winter sounds even better.

And yeah, I doubt (hope?) that it is the original engine, and am hoping that somebody overlooked that.

That is what concerned me the most.

The dealer didn't know anything about boost patterns or compression tests.

Not his fault, I suppose, but that doesn't exclude this car either.

I'd say the price is fair. Just from the pix - missing front emblem, missing wheel bolt, missing radio flange and *****. Aftermarket exhaust, intake and ic mean that the engine needs to be checked out. You can bet that you will need to replace some bits here and there - interior, etc.

good catch.

I didn't notice the missing lugnut or emblem.

and yeah, a compression check would make me happier.

generally cars with intake, exhaust and ic mods need other things done to prevent engine damage. The only way to find that out would be to see the car in person. That said, I got mine on ebay and could not be happier, left a deposit and drove the 500miles to check it out and drive it home. gl

I would never buy an FD w/o seeing it in person. Furthermore, I would never buy an FD from a dealer or ebay. Without getting a feel for what the owner was like, its a total crapshoot. A potentially expensive one.

Valid points. There still aren't any for sale in omaha though, so they are all out of state.

I don't know too many people on this board selling their rx-7 for $14k either though. However, I see lots of people griping about people trying to lowball them.
