Ease of throttle response.....

So is it me or do stock tranny/clutch/flywheel are kinda "laggy" when you tap the throttle? Most other cars that I've driven rev very easy but my FD seems to take some more effort to get it to rev easy/freely.

For example, if you dled that vid of the torque brace, before shots the motor seemed like it revved quite responsively, my car seems like it I need to step on it a little harder and the revvs don't move up and down as quickly as it seems it should?

I'm thinking it could be a lag/stretch in my throttle cable?

Thanks in advance.

-Dan

EDIT: This is sort of bothering me because when I double clutch/ heel toe I have to really tap the throttle to get it going........

Yeah, I have that too. Doesn't really jump the way my FC used too, though that needed a little more input than most 4 cyls I've dealt with. Anyway, coupling this with my glowing turbo housings, I'm beginning to suspect the cat has fried itself. Just wish there was a way to be SURE before I sunk the money... and yes, I have the DP already

I have size 9 feet. Can't heel and toe this thing very well. Bumer for me (and my g/f. Little feet.... genetics suck!)

Fried cat eh?

I have size 11 feet and I sure as hell can't heel toe so just use the top side portions of your feet and it should work fine. Also getting some aftermarket pedals help too.

Does anyone else have this throttle response problem in their FDs?

I do, and I pretty much have to mash the throttle half way to get it to rise quick enough when I double clutch. U jump in a honda or somthing and u tap the throttle and your at freaking redline lol.

I agree the lag's bad. I bought the lightest aluminum flywheel I could find and was a little dissapointed at the lag that I still had. I think some of it can be dialed out via tuning, but some must be inherant to the engine. Guess it makes it easier to learn heel-toe technique since you have to really work to overdo it!

To get rid of "lag": ANY downpipe, ANY aftermarket exhaust, additional grounding straps. The difference is incredible.

A bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner every 10K miles or so, a new fuel filter, clean air filter, new plugs and wires help too. It all adds up.

No, your throttle cable has not stretched!

Just FYI, in my torque brace video, my car has DP, HF-Cat, and 9.5 pound flywheel.

You might also check to see if there is excessive slack in your throttle cable.

changing the intake made a big difference for me.

prior to changing the intake I installed a 9.5lb flywheel and was still disappointed with the response when "blipping" the throttle. The flywheel does seem to help it rev faster once it has passed the transition from off throttle to on though. When I installed a fmic I switched my stock airbox (w a hole cut in the bottom) for 2 K&N filters bolted right to the turbos. This seems to have cured the problem. When I tap the gas to match revs it responds much faster now.

It's worth noting that I changed the IC at the same time, however I later rode in another FD with just a pettit intake and it felt similar.
