Dual Fuel Pump Theory

What is the main reason for someone to want to use a dual fuel pump setup? Why would someone choose this option instead of running a high flowing single pump? Seems like it's far and away overkill... Say for a car even chasing 600whp. Please enlighten me.

Redundancy, the ability to stage pumps on demand, and opening up the world of surge tanks etc. Also last I actually looked dual 044s were still the best bang for the buck with a real OEM backing it with regards to flow at higher pressures. This is not to knock any of the other well known pumps by any stretch.

Also, pumps have come a long way over the last 10 years. Anyone not wanting to run Bosh044 (loud), would run a Walbro or Supra Denso, and then require 2 pumps for high HP. Now they make compact and quiet and high flow pumps.

For years it was the "Walbro 255" or "Supra Pump" were your drop in options, but now there are other single pump solutions.

In my opinion I would only do two pumps if you absolutely cannot make 1 pump work for your needs.

I had great experience with Walbro 255 in an other platform, it was dead reliable.

E85 requires about 30% more fuel, so more pumpage is needed. I know I went a little over kill though. I'm running a Radium Surge tank with 1 lift pump and 2 pumps sending the fuel forward. All 3 pumps are Walbro 450. The second pump that sends the fuel forward doesn't kick on till 4000 RPM.
