dry starting engine, problems
i recently finished installing a new rotary motor in my vehicle to replace a blown one and i am having a few problems, i bought the car with a blown motor and this is my first time working on an rx-7, i might add, i purchased the vehicle about 9 months ago and dont know how long before that it has been sitting dry, the car may have sat dry for about 3 years total, i went to start it , turned the key and nothing much happenned, the guage lights turned on and so did the radiator fans but that is all. I have searched many forum posts and havent found a good chunk of info that can help me out. I unplugged the fuel pump and use a wire tester to test for power, when the key was turned, power was given and when it was off there was no power, when i went to turn the key i did not hear the pump prime up. is it quiet where i would not hear it. i also only put in about 2 gallons of gas. do i need to prime the pump at all to get it to suck? i did not change the fuel filter either, could that dry up hard and prevent flow? im going to chage it i just wanted to see if i could get any action out of the car.
also the starter does not turn over, it has power for sure, i tested it and the power is being transferred over from the solenoid when you turn the key to start, but nothing happens, most likely bad starter? can they go bad after sitting?
i also tried to push start the car, the engine would revolve but not fire up, so i am thinking that this would suggest another problem besides the starter and that is why i am leaning towards the fuel situation since i did not hear a noise when i turned the key on.
i did by pass the clutch sensor ( the one that tells in the clutch is pushed to the floor) so i know that is not a problem either. i also checked main fuse and a variety of other ones but did not check any relays (due to not knowing how to test one of the style that comes in the car)
any suggestions or previous experience may help me out. thank you

Why are you worring about fuel when the motor isnt even turning over? Get the starter figured out first, then worry about other ****.
and the fuel pump is quiet enough to where you wont hear it...
Also, why are you bypassing the clutch sensor. That could be your problem right there. Do you suspect its bad or something?
Also, have you pulled codes on the ECU yet? If not, I would do that first.
Another way to check your fuel system/prime it is to ground out the fuel pump diagnostics port. But just pull the codes and check back.

well the reason i was checking fuel items would be because i tried to push start the car and it did not fire up, the engine would revolve but not start up so i thought by pushing it it would start that same was as using the starter.
with the clutch sensor on the floor i tried it with out being bypassed and with it being bypassed, i did not just unplug it, i took a 2 connectors and made a fixed connection without using the switch so it would read engaged at all times. i was just told it was a occuring problem with rx-7's
where can i take the ecu to get codes read?
