driverside door lach problem

my drivers side door lach is acting up. i can only open my passenger side door from the outside and then i have to crawl to the otherside and open the driver side door handle from inside to open the door.

however i can unlock and lock both doors from the driverside and the door handle on the outside can lift up and down it just the door will not open.

i think the metal rods that connect the lock to the door handle may be bent so i will try bending them tomarrow to see if i can get the door to open.

have you guys experienced this problem? if you have what did you guys do to fix it.

thanks

Its not the metal rod.

Just open it up and you will see what it is. AFTER you have opened it up and take apart the door latch, install a small washer between the metal tab and the plastic piece that holds it against the handle. The reason this happened is because the metal tab that pushes the rod slipped off the door handle.

I do agree with flybye. When I was done reattaching the rod to the handle, it still didn't work..... It seemed like the rod was still too short. I ended up jimmying the latch. If I remember correctly I simply stuck something inbetween the rod and the actual latch to make the rod essentially longer. Hopefully Flybye's solution will work because I didn't have too much fun innovating a way to make the second work.... PM me if you get stuck???
